Circular Plastics Australia (PET) Recycling Plant:
A PET recycling plant jointly established by Pact Group, Asahi Beverages, Cleanaway Waste Management, and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, among other companies, is now operational. Among these, the facility located in Albury-Wodonga, New South Wales, is one of Australia's largest food-grade rPET (recycled PET) production plants. It has an annual processing capacity equivalent to 1 billion 600ml PET bottles, producing over 20,000 tonnes of new rPET for manufacturing food-grade packaging, such as beverage bottles and food containers. This demonstrates the capability to process recycled PET bottles into food-contact-approved rPET sheets or pellets, which serve as raw materials for producing transparent fruit packaging boxes.
· Martogg Group’s Circular AU Project:
Martogg Group’s Circular AU food-grade plastic recycling facility in Melbourne focuses on producing high-quality rPET (marketed under the brand marPET). The facility processes plastic packaging waste from curbside recycling and Container Deposit Schemes (CDS) to produce food-grade recycled plastic, which is then used to manufacture food packaging. This also suggests that its output could potentially be applied in areas such as fruit packaging.
· Supply Chain Collaboration and Packaging Applications:
Pact Group has signed agreements with supermarket giants like Aldi and Woolworths to supply packaging made from recycled plastics (including rPET and rHDPE), such as recyclable plastic bottles and fresh boxes. Both Aldi and Woolworths have committed to incorporating at least 30% recycled plastic in their plastic packaging by 2025. This indicates that recycled PET could be used to produce fruit packaging boxes for the fresh produce sections of supermarkets.
